Not For the Beginner For someone who already posseses an understanding of anatomy, who knows the foundation of modeling the head, this book describes not much more than forming a maniken. Step by step, the master shows how to build the figure starting with the skeleton, and laying on each muscle, then fatty tissue and skin layer. This is really the kind of book that you will want to flip through before you buy it. This particular sculptor sculpts the entire skeleton, muscular system out to the finished sculpture you see on the front of the book.
Nothing is mentioned about proportions and very little is discussed about placement. As a student this information is invaluable in more accurately sculpting the human form. Lucchesi is obviously a very talented sculpter of the human physique,I found this book to be somewhat simplistic in it's approach. Fantastic reference for figure study By William E. Lucchesi is a fine artist and I admire his talent and technique. She is well pleased with the book.
At 86 she is embarking into a new medium and this author was recommended to her. I hope you are still with us. Not great.

I am actually a pretty tough critic, and a 4 star review for an art instruction book coming from me is pretty rare check out my other reviews for art books if you don't believe me.
Anatomy for Med students, not sculptors. Seethaler on Aug 16, I read this book incredibly fast because it is just pictures and descriptions of what a sculptor is doing. Highly recommended. As long as you're purchasing this book to see how this particular artist, Bruno Lucchesi, sculpts a face, then I'm sure you'll be pleased.
Follow him as he creates a figure in clay--literally from the inside out--starting with the skeleton, laying on the muscles to show male and female anatomy, and finishing with a complete figure sculpture with every detail of face and hair carefully modeled.
Process Photos are Great By Amazon Customer on Nov 25, Pretty similar to "Modeling the Head in Clay: Creative Techniques" in that it shows the process in great detail but does not give you too much information to bring to your own works. A Customer on Aug 18, While Mr. Lucchesi is obviously a very talented sculpter of the human physique,I found this book to be somewhat simplistic in it's Bruno Lucchesi book.
While making the hair, he doesn't claim the attention to the serious problems of the bubbles which can explode the piece Good but not great By J. Lucchesi's head book is just as good. Another student in my sculpturing class, also liked the book and purchased it. Was this book even written by an artist?
There is no discussion of the relationships between parts of the face or how those relations change with different emotions. I appreciate the very low price which is many dollars less than those at the school's bookstore.
For someone who already posseses an understanding of anatomy, who knows the foundation of modeling the head, this book describes not much more than forming a maniken. Good book! Great price!
I was just curious and wanted to learn more about the steps and how some things are done. In my opinion I think Rubino's book gives the reader more insight into how the author's mind is working when he is setting up the sculpture.
From the skeleton through the musculature to the skin, Bruno Lucchesi is amazing. Customer Book Reviews Best book on clay sculpting By Randall Black on Aug 10, I bought this book along with several others while taking a class in sculpture.Terracotta: The Technique of Fired Clay Sculpture by Bruno Lucchesi.
