Book Excerpt: James Thurber's 'Collected Fables'

Danny Kaye played the title character. A number of his short stories were made into movies, including "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"which is also regarded as one of the best short stories written in the twentieth century. Regardless of method, his cartoons became as noted as his writings; they possessed an eerie, wobbly feel that seems to mirror his idiosyncratic view on life.
