Now Laurel is repaying the kindness of her friends by creating extravagantly luscious tiers of cakes and other confectionary delights that add the perfect touch to their clients' weddings. As for romance, Laurel believes in it -- in theory. I can have hope and not be a raging bad-series-finishing-aholic! Nat had been spending a lot of time with Melissa lately and made a promise to herself to make more time for Lara and Paul too. There was about as much heat between these two as there is between two lizards. That ought to make it clear. Where are you on that continuum between living and drowning?
She took the glass and the Pad Thai and plopped herself on the couch next to Eddie. She bent down to rub his furry gray head, and he chirped and purred a welcome home. It was a copy of the weekly indie rock magazine Market, and on the cover was none other than Melissa Hartford.
This book is low on angst. So there she sat in bed, Eddie sprawled out on his back in a sunbeam, while she looked disheveled and covered in a thin layer of nacho cheese powder. The characters did have some chemistry and I liked them together.

By that I mean that it's incredibly painful, exponentially more so if you fight it, and also that it has the potential to open you up, to open life up, to deliver you right into the palm of God's hand, which is where you wanted to be all along, except that you were too busy pushing and pulling your life into exactly what you thought it should be.
I wanted a way of living that felt more like living and less like drowning. Chapter Three Nat slid the key into the door of her Long Island City loft and breathed an exhausted sigh of relief.
Can Del prove to her that she is everything he wants and needs? Lara had broken up with her long-time girlfriend a couple months prior and was having a rough time with it. Del asks Laurel if she can make a cake to welcome back one of his paralegals from maternity leave and of course, she says yes.
Nat removed the hand shielding her eye and watched her friend of over a decade quickly cover herself as a familiar face emerged from between her legs. It was so beautifully grassy and herbaceous; she nearly teared up with joy.
Chapter Six Nat sat in bed, carefully licking orange cheese dust off her fingers. One, two, three!
She wanted to forgive Lara and maybe that was the key to moving forward. I do have to admit I struggled in the beginning of the book.
